For my ethnography, I would like to research kids on a bus. I will do my research on the New Prague bus route, with kids from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I'll ride the same bus four to six times. I would like the route to be a country route, so there is more time for observing.
One bias I have about a schoolbus is the type of kids that ride it: there is always a bully, a victim, one encouraging the bully, one standing up to the bully, a shy one. Another bias is that buses are always noisy and chaotic and sometimes out-of-control.
One obstacle I may encounter would be gettting parent approval for using their child's name; I will send out letters, if I decide to use actual names, asking parents to call me or return it to the bus driver. Another obstacle will be finding a route with my conditions and being comfortable with the bus driver; I don't think this will be too hard because I know a bus driver so I can ask him who he thinks I could ride with.
Some possible interviews for me are the bus driver I know, the driver I ride along with, and some kids of different "types" on the bus. Things I'll need to know while going into my research are the length and location of the chosen route, what days will work to ride the bus, and any incidents that have happened recently on NP buses and exspecially the one I choose.
I have no idea what my thesis will be. I think I would like to focus on the different "types" of kids and see what, if any, patterns there are behind their behavior.
